Circumambulation

Plate VII — Circumambulation

Structural intent

Represent circular traversal: an orbit around a center. The core is a ring path (or implied loop) with a stable central reference.

What must be observable

  • A central anchor (object or void) around which the structure is organized.
  • A circular or looping pathway (ring corridor, circular colonnade, spiral walkway).
  • Radial consistency: elements point or curve around the same center.
  • Clear “aroundness” rather than forward-only progression.

Common failure modes

  • Circular forms without an implied path (a circle shape but no traversal).
  • Multiple centers (conflicting radial anchors).
  • Spiral mistaken for orbit when center is not stable.
  • Oblique viewpoint that turns circular organization into an ellipse without context.

UI / system translation (non-symbolic)

  • Use for dashboards, cycles, and periodic review flows.
  • In UI: radial navigation, cyclical stepper, “return to center” controls.
  • In system terms: periodic jobs, loops with stable invariants, ring buffers.
  • QA: require clear center + traversable ring evidence.
